The Blog Story hosts writing and images published by its members. We respect copyright, and we respond to properly made notices of alleged infringement under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and equivalent laws elsewhere.

1. Before you file

Only the copyright owner, or someone authorised to act for them, may file a notice. Consider first whether the use might be permitted — quotation, criticism, review, news reporting, or another exception. Notices filed in bad faith can carry legal liability for the person filing them.

If your complaint is not about copyright — harassment, privacy, a trademark, or something unlawful — use the report form instead, or the Report control on the post or comment.

2. How to send a notice

Send your notice to our copyright agent using the contact details at the bottom of this page, marking it “Copyright notice”. You may also submit it through the contact form choosing the copyright topic, which gives you a reference number to quote later.

Your notice must include all of the following:

Identification of the copyrighted work you say has been infringed. If several works are covered by one notice, a representative list.
Identification of the material you say is infringing, with enough detail for us to find it — the full address of the post or the specific image on it.
Your contact details: name, postal address, telephone number and email address.
A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
A statement that the information in the notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the copyright owner or authorised to act on the owner's behalf.
Your physical or electronic signature.

An incomplete notice cannot be acted on. We will tell you what is missing.

3. What we do with a notice

We review complete notices promptly and, where the claim appears valid, remove or disable access to the material — typically by unpublishing the post or removing the specific media.
We notify the member who published it, tell them what was removed and why, and pass on your notice, including the contact details it contains.
The action is recorded, and the member can appeal from their appeals page or file a counter-notice as described below.

Because a notice is forwarded to the person who published the material, do not include information in it that you are not willing to share with them.

4. Counter-notice

If your content was removed and you believe that was a mistake or a misidentification, you may send a counter-notice to the same contact. It must include:

Your name, address, telephone number and email address.
Identification of the material that was removed and where it appeared before removal.
A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed as a result of mistake or misidentification.
A statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the courts where you live, or where our operator is located if you are outside that country, and that you will accept service of process from the person who filed the original notice.
Your physical or electronic signature.

We forward valid counter-notices to the original complainant. If they do not tell us within the period the law allows that they have filed a court action, we may restore the material.

5. Repeat infringers

We keep a record of infringement notices against each account. Accounts that repeatedly infringe are suspended and then terminated, in line with our Terms & Conditions.

6. If your work was reproduced by a member

Many disputes are resolved faster by writing to the author directly — every author has a public profile page — and asking for attribution, a link, or removal. This policy is here for when that does not work, or when you would rather not make contact.
